Inside a Fit in Faith session

Every Fit in Faith group moves together, learns something about health, and closes in scripture and prayer, though what that looks like depends on the congregation and what its members need most.

01 · Movement

Movement for every body

Walking groups, chair-based stretching, and strength work led by our team during the program, with no equipment or prior fitness experience needed to take part.

  • Workout plans and demonstrations for the group to continue with
  • A modified version of every exercise, for all mobility levels
  • Wellness check-ins and weekly challenges we follow up on together

02 · Health Education

Health education you can use

Each week we take on a different health topic, covering goal setting, chronic disease, stress and what it does to the body, and nutrition, and we work through them together with trivia, games, and group activities rather than lectures.

  • Journaling prompts and weekly challenges
  • Guidance connected to local food access resources
  • Conversation and activities rather than lectures

03 · Reflection

Scripture and fellowship in every session

Every session closes with scripture, prayer, and reflection tied to that week's focus, and the time members spend together in fellowship is as much a part of the work as anything else we do.

  • Bible study guides tied to the week's theme
  • Fresh reflection and prayer prompts each week
  • Written so church members can lead them
Our First Cycle

Six weeks with Varick Church.

Here is what our first full cycle looked like at Varick Church, week by week.

Group gathered for the first session, setting goals together
Week 1

Getting Started

We got active together and set goals for the weeks ahead, then talked about how faith supports that work.

Week 2

Movement & Nutrition

We took a walk, then turned to nutrition. Trivia and hands-on challenges helped everyone get comfortable reading food labels.

Group discussing chronic disease and health during week three
Week 3

Understanding Our Health

We looked at chronic disease and how food, genetics, and the body interact. The session closed with reflections on God's healing power.

Week 4

Stress & Self-Care

We walked through the cherry blossoms, then spent the session on stress. Guided meditation, prayer, and a clear look at what long-term stress does to the body.

Week 5

Building for the Future

More functional exercise, plus a cha cha slide. Then we talked about what comes next and who will lead it.

Week 6

Celebrating Together

We reviewed what we'd learned, went line dancing, and closed out six weeks with brunch together.
